Filter Technical Overview
Automatic self-cleaning backwash filters are selected for continuous inline filtration service in water supply, industrial cooling water, irrigation, and process water systems where manual basket or Y-type strainers are not suitable due to high flow rate, high particulate load, or the requirement for uninterrupted operation without periodic shutdown for screen cleaning. The self-cleaning mechanism automatically removes accumulated debris from the screen element by differential pressure-triggered backwash, maintaining consistent filtration efficiency and pressure drop throughout continuous operation.
Electric actuated backwash systems are specified for large-bore installations and remote or automated facilities where manual intervention for cleaning is impractical — water treatment plants, pump stations, irrigation networks, and industrial cooling water systems where continuous operation and remote monitoring are required. Differential pressure control triggers the backwash cycle automatically when screen fouling reaches the preset threshold, ensuring consistent filtration performance without operator intervention.
Screen mesh selection is determined by the particle size requiring removal and the downstream equipment protection requirements — coarse screens (500–3000 μm) for large debris and pipeline detritus protection, medium screens (100–500 μm) for general process equipment protection, and fine screens (50–100 μm) for instrumentation and precision equipment protection. Body material selection — carbon steel with epoxy coating for standard water service, stainless steel for corrosive or potable water applications — is determined by fluid quality, corrosion requirements, and regulatory compliance for water contact materials
