Gate Valve Technical Overview
Rotary gate valves are selected for full-bore isolation service where reduced seat wear, lower operating torque, and extended service life are required compared to conventional wedge gate valves. The rotary disc mechanism eliminates the linear wedging action of standard gate designs, minimizing friction between disc and seat during operation and making them suitable for high-cycle applications in water treatment, cooling water systems, HVAC, and general industrial process piping at PN16–PN40.
Forged steel body construction (A105, F304, F316) provides superior material integrity and resistance to pressure cycling compared to cast alternatives. Handwheel operation is standard for smaller sizes, with gear operators selected for larger bore valves where manual torque becomes impractical. Locking devices are commonly specified for safety-critical isolation points where valve position must be secured against accidental operation.
Body material selection follows standard gate valve criteria — carbon steel (A105) for general service up to 425°C, stainless steel (F304, F316) for corrosive media, and duplex grades for aggressive chemical or offshore environments. Design standards API 600 and ASME B16.34 apply for pressure-temperature ratings across all service conditions.
