Gate Valve Technical Overview
OS&Y gate valves with integrated pipe clamp support brackets are selected for fire protection sprinkler supply isolation and general process plant service where secure valve body support, visual stem position indication, and compact installation are required simultaneously. The pipe clamp bracket eliminates the need for separate valve support steelwork — securing the valve body directly to the pipeline or structural support in a single installation step, reducing installation time and material cost in dense plant piping arrangements.
NFPA 13 and FM Global requirements mandate OS&Y gate valves for fire protection sprinkler supply isolation, where the rising stem provides immediate valve status confirmation for fire service personnel without requiring position indicators or instrumentation. The pipe clamp support is particularly valuable in fire protection installations where valves are mounted in suspended ceiling spaces, riser shafts, and plant rooms where separate support steelwork would be difficult to install and maintain.
Body material selection — WCB for standard fire protection and process service, alloy steel (WC6) for high-temperature applications, and stainless steel (CF8, CF8M) for corrosive media — follows standard gate valve criteria. Design standards API 600 and ASME B16.34 govern process service applications, with NFPA 13 and UL 262 applying for fire protection service. The stainless steel clamp bracket material provides corrosion resistance in wet pipe fire protection systems and outdoor installations where carbon steel supports would require additional corrosion protection.
