HD Flowtech slab gate valves are engineered for full-bore isolation service in high-pressure gas transmission and pipeline systems. The WCB carbon steel body with yellow epoxy coating meets natural gas pipeline corrosion protection standards for above-ground and buried service at Class 600 operating pressures. The slab gate design uses a flat parallel gate disc with spring-loaded floating seats that seal against both upstream and downstream faces, providing bidirectional shut-off and self-relieving cavity pressure relief — critical safety features for gas transmission pipeline service. Full-bore design ensures unrestricted flow and complete pigging compatibility for inline inspection and cleaning operations without valve removal. A rising stem with gear operator provides low-effort actuation and clear visual open/closed position indication for large-bore high-pressure pipeline isolation duty. The bottom drain connection allows cavity depressurization and liquid removal without removing the valve from the pipeline, essential for gas transmission maintenance procedures. Flanged end connections to ASME B16.5 Class 600 ensure direct integration into high-pressure gas pipeline systems.

Gate Valve Technical Overview

How to Choose the Right Gate Valve for Industrial Applications

Slab gate valves are selected for full-bore isolation service in oil and gas transmission pipelines, subsea systems, and high-pressure process applications where bidirectional shut-off, pigging compatibility, and cavity pressure relief are required. The parallel slab gate disc with spring-loaded floating seats provides tight bidirectional sealing and automatic cavity pressure relief — preventing over-pressurization of the valve body cavity and making slab gate valves the standard specification for gas transmission mains, pipeline sectioning valves, and compressor station isolation duty to API 6D.

Full-bore design is mandatory for transmission pipeline service where inline inspection tools (smart pigs) must pass through the valve without obstruction. Yellow epoxy coating is standard for natural gas pipeline installations, providing corrosion protection for above-ground and buried service in compliance with gas industry coating specifications. Gear operators are standard for larger bore and high-pressure sizes where differential pressure across the gate makes manual handwheel actuation impractical.

Body material selection covers a wide range of service conditions — carbon steel (WCB) for standard gas transmission service, low-temperature carbon steel (LCB) for Arctic and cold climate pipeline installations requiring impact toughness at −46°C, and stainless steel (CF8M) or duplex grades for sour gas and corrosive hydrocarbon service. Design standard API 6D governs slab gate valves for pipeline service, with ISO 14313 as the international equivalent, covering pressure-temperature ratings, bidirectional sealing requirements, and pigging passage criteria.
