Power Plant Valve Supply: What We've Actually Built
If you’ve spent any time sourcing valves for power plant projects, you know the difference between a supplier with a nice catalogue and one who’s actually been through the process — the documentation reviews, the inspection hold points, the last-minute delivery pressure when a commissioning date is fixed.
HD Valves has been doing this since 2004. Over 300 power plant contracts across China, from 135MW district heating units to 1000MW supercritical generators. The projects listed below are a selection of representative cases from our reference list. Given the volume of contracts over the years, we haven’t listed everything — but if you’re working in a specific sector or application, we’re happy to share more relevant references on request.
Large Thermal Power — 600MW to 1000MW
At this scale, valve supply isn’t a single purchase order. It’s multiple packages across steam, feed water, cooling water, vacuum, and utility systems — often with different delivery schedules tied to construction sequencing.
For Guodian Bengbu Power’s 2×660MW expansion, HD Valves handled both the A and B class domestic valve packages — electric gate valves, vacuum gate valves, check valves, safety valves, pneumatic butterfly valves, and control valves across the full auxiliary system scope. Combined value across both contracts came to over RMB 10 million.
Datang Binchang Power 2×600MW was a multi-contract project spread across the construction period — vacuum isolation gate valves, pump control valves, electric butterfly and gate valves for steam and auxiliary systems. Total supply exceeded RMB 4.5 million.
At the 1000MW level, references include Guodian Ningxia Fangjia Power, Shenhua Yuanyanhu Power 2×1000MW expansion, and Shanxi Guoji Energy Yuguang Coal Power 2×1000MW — the last a gate valve and check valve contract at RMB 11.7 million.
Most recently, in early 2026 HD Valves completed supply of 198 valves for the Diantou Power Plant 2×1000MW Expansion in Huangling, Shaanxi — 151 check valves and 47 butterfly valves from DN15 to DN1100 across PN10 to PN160, fully delivered within one month of contract signing.
Medium-Scale Thermal and CHP — 300MW to 350MW
This range makes up the bulk of our power plant reference list. Cogeneration projects at this scale tend to need a wider mix of valve types than pure generation — you’re covering steam systems, heating network isolation, and district heat distribution all in the same scope.
Datang Jixin Power 2×330MW coal gangue CHP was one of the more involved single contracts — electric control valves, gate valves, vacuum valves, check valves, and globe valves for boiler and steam systems, RMB 9.2 million.
Shanxi Zhangze Power has come back to HD Valves across multiple projects. Houma CHP 2×300MW heating network needed electric triple-offset butterfly valves up to DN1400, check valves, and control valves. Linfen CHP 2×300MW exhaust steam heat recovery went larger — electric triple-offset welded butterfly valves from DN1200 up to DN4000, at RMB 7.09 million.
Xuzhou Huamei Power 2×350MW supercritical CFB was a full domestic valve package — electric and manual gate valves, globe valves, check valves, butterfly valves — RMB 5.43 million.
For Jilin Power, HD Valves supplied valve packages to three separate projects in the same period: Songhua River 2×350MW CHP, Siping 2×350MW subcritical CHP, and Baicheng 2×600MW supercritical air-cooled — the Baicheng contract alone at RMB 6.39 million covering electric gate and globe valves, vacuum gate valves, butterfly valves, and stainless steel ball valves.
Smaller Units and Specialist Applications
Some of the more technically interesting work in our reference list sits outside the standard thermal power categories.
Ordos Shuangxin Power 2×135MW circulating water system needed liquid-controlled accumulator slow-closing check butterfly valves at DN1200. It’s a design detail that matters — a standard swing check on a large pump circuit creates water hammer pressure spikes on trip that can damage flanged connections. Getting the check valve specification right here is an engineering decision, not just a procurement one.
Shenmu Jieneng Power coal gas system upgrade involved electric butterfly valves and fan-type blind plate valves from DN600 to DN2000. At these bore sizes, explosion-proof actuator specification and gas-tight sealing take priority over pressure rating alone.
Yingkou Tiansheng Power 150MW gas station — coal gas main header valves including electric triple-offset butterfly valves and horizontal blind plate valves up to DN3200. When you’re working at DN3200, valve body dead weight and actuator structural loading are part of the engineering conversation.
District Heating and CHP Networks
Heating network projects generate a different kind of relationship than greenfield power plants. Once a supplier is qualified on a network, annual maintenance contracts and expansion phases tend to follow naturally.
Shijiazhuang Huadian Heating Group has been an ongoing customer across several years — electric butterfly valves, ball valves, gate valves, check valves, control valves, and expansion joints for network maintenance and new station builds. Cumulative supply across those contracts exceeded RMB 4.6 million.
Hohhot District Heating under Sino-German financial cooperation required manual flanged and welded butterfly valves DN50 to DN900 at PN16 for boiler auxiliary systems, supplied across multiple project phases as construction progressed.
Waste-to-Energy and Biomass
These projects sit at the overlap of power generation and environmental engineering. Valve specs often combine standard power plant types with corrosion-resistant materials for flue gas and chemical dosing systems.
References here include Changxing Waste-to-Energy CHP, Harbin Jiuzhou Taisheng Biomass CHP 2×40MW, Heilongjiang Yichun Nancha Biomass Back-Pressure CHP, and Jinan Huaneng Bioenergy CHP — covering water-seal gate valves, safety valves, electric ball valves, and butterfly check valves across different system types.
International Projects
HD Valves’ domestic track record has backed several international deliveries through Chinese EPC contractors.
India Lanjigarh 210MW steam-power cogeneration — butterfly valves, globe valves, gate valves, vacuum globe valves, check valves, and flow indicators through a Chinese EPC contractor.
Bangladesh Asuganj — full valve package including globe valves, gate valves, ball valves, butterfly valves, check valves, safety valves, pump control valves, steam traps, Y-strainers, and flame arrestors.
Kyrgyzstan refinery and power cogeneration — gate valves, check valves, globe valves, and pipeline filters for combined oil refining and power generation service.
What Comes Up Repeatedly in Power Plant Valve Scopes
After 130+ contracts, some patterns are pretty consistent. For anyone building a sourcing shortlist:
High-pressure steam — welded gate and globe valves in WC6/WC9 alloy steel, Class 600 to Class 2500, Stellite-hardfaced trim. Material certification and pressure test records come with every order — that’s not optional on a steam system.
Vacuum systems — vacuum isolation gate valves and vacuum butterfly valves for condenser connections. Low-leakage sealing is what matters here, not just the pressure class.
Large-bore cooling water — electric butterfly valves DN700 to DN2000, liquid-controlled and slow-closing designs for pump trip protection. A standard swing check on a high-capacity pump circuit is usually the wrong call.
Boiler feed water — electric gate and globe valves, multi-function pump control valves on pump discharge.
Coal and fuel gas — triple-offset metal-seated butterfly valves and blind plate valves to PN63, explosion-proof actuator packages.
District heating — triple-offset butterfly valves DN300 to DN1400, welded ball valves DN25 to DN700, expansion joints.
